An Exciting Time in the DC Sports Scene

Dare I say it.....things are getting better in the DC sports scene.

Yes, the past 10 or so years have been absolutely miserable. The Redskins have not won a division title since 1999, the Wizards have only made it to the second round of the playoffs once since the 1980's, the Capitals lack of post-season success after record breaking regular seasons, and the Nationals and Orioles inability to post a winning percentage above .500. In that time, I have had to witness New York (Yankees/Giants), Boston (Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins), and even Philadelphia (Phillies) celebrate a title.

Why would today feel different? There seems to be a sense of excitement about many of our hometown teams. The Redskins are 3-1, and playing in a division where the other teams are doing whatever they can to find a way to lose. The Capitals have re-tooled like never before, picking up the top goalie free agent on the market while continuing the build their team through the draft. The Wizards are following the Capitals blueprint, and will be competitive very soon (assuming we have an NBA season). The return of Strasburg and the emergence of Jordan Zimmermann give the Nationals a solid 1-2 rotation. The Orioles will always be the Orioles, but there is always hope that eventually they will pull out in a winning season in the highly competitive AL East.

No one knows how things will play out with our teams, but things are looking positive for the first time in many years.
